NHS Hosts 2nd Wellness Fair for Students
Norwalk High School hosted its second Wellness Fair on Nov. 14, introducing many of its students to the health and wellness resources available to them in the Norwalk community.
Assistant Principal Dr. Dan Sullivan worked with Margaret Watt, the Prevention Director at Positive Directions, to organize more than a dozen community providers and school-based support staff to set up a table in the NHS gymnasium and share with students the services that they can offer to Norwalk teens.
“We’re making you aware of all the great resources in town,” Edward Milton told students as they flowed into the gym. Milton is a social worker with Kids in Crisis who is based inside Norwalk High School.
More than 400 students visited the NHS Wellness Fair, the majority of them freshmen and sophomores. A next wellness fair will be held in the spring.
“It’s important for the freshmen because they’re new and unfamiliar with what’s available,” said Jenna Albano, advisor for the NHS Bears Health and Wellness Club.
To encourage students to speak with the providers, they were given a note card to have stamped at every booth where they actively engaged with the representatives. If a student collected five stamps, they could put their card in a raffle that would be drawn on Nov. 15.
