Art Department
Find your voice through art!
The Visual Art Pathway at Norwalk High School offers a wide range of courses in drawing, painting, digital illustration and design, applied arts, photography, and textiles, providing students with opportunities to develop their creative expression and build critical skills. These courses align with the Portrait of a Graduate competencies, fostering collaboration, communication, critical thinking, self-direction, and global citizenship.
Students engage in traditional and experimental approaches to fine arts, working independently and collaboratively while learning higher-order thinking, problem-solving, and planning strategies. Art history is embedded throughout the curriculum, enriching students’ understanding of art’s role in culture and society.
The arts also provide students with a powerful voice, teaching them how to advocate for themselves and their communities through creative expression. Advanced opportunities, such as Honors Portfolio and college-credit courses like ECE UCONN Drawing and AP Studio Art, allow students to pursue a rigorous and enriching art education throughout high school. Inclusive offerings, such as the Peer-Assisted Art course, ensure that all students can participate and thrive in the arts.
