English Department Overview

The English Department at Norwalk High School champions critical thinking as a means of engaging with text, with other people, and with the world at large.  Instructors guide students to develop as readers, writers, viewers, and speakers who are equipped to make informed decisions and to interpretate and evaluate varied texts. Through literature, nonfiction, and the writing process students make connections - between purpose, context, and audience - that foster learning and lead to action. It is the vision in ELA that these connections spark curiosity and forever guide students to seek understanding of both the human condition and their own place in the universe.
