Family Consumer Science Overview

The Culinary Arts Program at Norwalk High School teaches students food preparation, restaurant management, and hospitality. Culinary is open to all students, every grade level and experience. Starting off with Principles of Culinary Arts and moving forward to Culinary Arts I, II, and III.  Ms. Dolan and Mr. White both started their careers in the Food Service industry and have over 40 years combined teaching experience in the field.

Our state-of-the-art culinary center is structured to teach culinary arts to students as well as to provide a team building environment at Norwalk High. We focus on technique while teaching our students to prepare culinary works of art. Our students learn to work together while creating delicious meals.

Our hands-on culinary courses at NHS rewarding and effective in developing organizational skills, sharpening communication skills, and promoting group work.

Students will learn all aspects of the food industry while running the Little Bear Café. A student run, faculty and staff supported, restaurant. Catering events within the high school and the community help foster mentorship opportunities to every student.

Within your first few days of high school, YOU ARE COOKING! Whether you are preparing pizza, baking cookies, or creating a casserole, you are gaining the necessary knowledge to enter the culinary field WHILE HAVING FUN!
