National Honor Society

The scholarship requirement identified in the Constitution is based on a student’s cumulative grade point average. A candidate must hold a minimum 3.80 cumulative grade point average to be considered for selection.

To meet the leadership criterion for NHS, a candidate must name two (2) leadership roles at school or in the community achieved since the ninth grade and indicate the roles and the name of the adult who supervised each of these activities on the candidate information form. More than two roles may be listed, but there must be two verifiable listings to be selected to our chapter. 

Examples include but are not limited to:

• Class, club or organization officer
• Team captain, co-captain
• Event or activity organizer, director or coordinator
• Group, section or crew leader
• Camp counselor
• Work supervisor, manager or team leader
• Youth coach or teacher

To be selected as a member of our chapter, a candidate must demonstrate on his or her candidate information form, the completion of minimum ten (10) hours of verifiable service undertaken at school or in the community since the start of ninth grade.

Examples include but are not limited to:

• Club, organization or activity volunteer
• Clothing or food drive volunteer
• School or community clean-up activity
• Tutor
• Church or mission work
• Worker for charity event or organization

To be selected as a member of our chapter, a candidate must display character. A person of character demonstrates the following six qualities: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
